Hormones, the environment and your sex drive

One of the most worrying trends of our modern society is the decreasing threshold age for andropause. Andropause is the male equivalent of the female menopause that usually affects men between the ages of 40 and 55. However, this is not how it was supposed to be. A mere hundred years ago andropause did not start until the early 50s, but the industrialized society that we live in has turned andropause into a man triggered condition. The sharp drop in the amounts of testosterone produced by the body, which is the mark of andropause, is no longer a natural process, but can be brought about in the early 40s by the constant presence of a wide range of chemicals. These chemicals act as synthetic estrogen in the male body and induce certain changes at the physical and psychological levels.

The symptoms that accompany andropause include urination and prostate problems, mood swings and depression, impotence, low sex drive and low sperm count, weight gain, low blood sugar or diabetes, dry skin, bone loss, fatigue, anxiety, low absorption of Zinc, increased chance of heart attacks and water retention. The presence of xenoestrogens, which means estrogen that is not produced within the body, is disrupting the natural hormonal balance and leads to the early onset of andropause. These foreign hormones are the result of our constant exposure to various products of the modern society. A brief list of xenoestrogen sources would include:

Reasons for the Increase or Decrease of Sperm Production

January 15th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Semen

Although women stop producing egg cells upon menopause, they are born with all the eggs she will ever need. Men on the other hand, produce sperm cells upon puberty. Consequently, their daily activities may affect the sperm production process.

When the sperm fails to be produced properly or not at all, conception becomes almost impossible for his partner. There are various causes for the increases and decrease in sperm production. The factors that may affect the sperm quality could actually be summarized in six main points namely: sperm mobility, concentration, morphology, speed, count and last but not the least, sub-fertility. Drawbacks in any of these areas can vastly affect the chances of conception.

Sperm mobility refers to the sperm’s ability to move in a rather dynamic and active fashion. When it comes to healthy sperm, more than 50% of them may be considered as active if over 25% of them moving vehemently in one direction. Its significance can be understood by the fact that it enables the sperm to travel through the cervical canal, into the uterus and the fallopian tubes and finally, to break through the egg.

Next is concentration that refers to the measure of the number of sperm cells in a milliliter of semen. The average or normal concentration measures around 22 million sperm cells per milliliter of semen.

The third point is morphology. A healthy sperm cell bears a resemblance to a tadpole in shape. The oval head of the sperm holds the genetic material, while the center provides energy and the tail thrusts the sperm forward. In addition, experts believe that oddly shaped sperm are not capable of fertilizing an egg.

Speed is another factor that affects sperm quality. Based on the study made by the World Health Organization in a healthy male, beyond 25% of sperm will exhibit progressive mobility. These are the sperm with the best chance of successfully infiltrating and fertilizing an egg.

Sperm count is also a vital factor in sperm production. Count refers to the number of sperms in the fluid that is ejaculated. There are over 50 million sperms in a normal ejaculate, and a total count below 40 million may indicate decreased fertility.

The sixth and last factor is sub-fertility. The term refers to the couples that are unable to reach conception even after a year’s period of unprotected intercourse. However, this is different from infertility. The typical causes of male sub-fertility include sperm production problems, blockage in the sperm’s delivery system, injuries to the testicles, low or high hormone production, anatomical problems, varicocele, past illnesses, side effects of medications, and sperm quality.

Increasing the volume of ejaculation has become a common obsession among men. During the past few years, the medical community had been committed to developing a safe and effective alternative treatment than the run of the mill advice that has been handed down from one generation to the next. Recent studies show that increasing sperm volume could actually be accomplished in two ways. First is by taking herbal supplements that contain amino acids and zinc. Amino acids, if taken regularly, are generally believed to increase ejaculate fluid. On the other hand, zinc seems to improve both the amount of sperm produced as well as the sperm’s ability to move spontaneously and independently. Together with amino acids, this will increase sperm volume significantly.

The second way is doing PC exercises. Although Kegel exercises can help you last longer, they can also aid in increasing sperm volume. Several exercises can help to keep your penis in great shape and shoot like a champion.

Reasons for dip in sex drive

January 5th, 2008 1 Comment   Posted in For women only

Many women experience at least one dip in their sex drive, often several. It could be short term or longer term, but either way it’s an unfortunate occurrence. Don’t you want to go back to the level of desire you had when you were in your twenties? There’s no need to just accept that you’re not interested in sex right now. Lack of sex affects intimacy between a couple, as well as affects mood. Research has been done over the years into improving women’s libido, and with a little information you can go back to feeling like how you did, before work, family and age took too much out of you.

Thankfully, there are now multiple treatments available to women with low libidos. Finding out what is causing the dip in sex drive is important to figure out which form of treatment might be most effective. Treatments range from counselling to simple lifestyle changes, to estrogen patches and prescription drugs. The problem could either be physical or emotional. Finding out why you’re experiencing a low sex drive is vital to finding out how to fix the problem.

Some physical factors include, but are not limited to: hormone deficiency, stress, childbirth, hyperthyroidism, low levels of testosterone, diabetes, and some forms of medication. Talking to your doctor may help to pinpoint the cause, and they can discuss solutions with you.

Fatigue, stress and health are three big factors that affect not only your libido but every aspect of your life.

Your doctor may suggest an estrogen patch or pill, which is used to treat the symptoms of menopause. Some doctors prescribe taking male virility drugs like Viagra as a means to increase sexual desire. While the drug may indeed increase sexual desire, there have been no official reports released yet on the results for women. There are also a number of side effects that may not be worth it. It’s important to discuss options with your doctor. Thankfully, natural treatments such as HerSolution Gel™ offer a safe alternative to drugs or hormones. You can find out more about HerSolution Gel™ at HerSolutionGel.com.

If the problem isn’t physical, then you have to ask yourself what is causing the problem. Negative feelings like stress, guilt, and worry may affect your desire to have sex. If the problem is emotional, then counselling or behavioural therapy is an option that works for many women.

Most importantly, don’t put too much stress on yourself. If the worry from your day to day life is affecting your sex life, then worry about your sex life is going to affect your sex life even worse.

Temporary Erectile Dysfunction

January 3rd, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Gels and Lotions, Products for men

Erectile Dysfunction, or ED, can happen to anyone. Thankfully, most cases are only temporary. It’s defined as the inability to maintain or sustain an erection. Has that happened to you? An estimated 25 to 30 million men will encounter impotence during their lifetime, and a 1999 the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) reported that 22 out of every 1000 men sought help for erectile dysfunction.

While it’s a normal problem, most men feel ashamed. This bruise to their ego can affect other aspects of their life, and affect their self confidence. With a little information though, erectile dysfunction isn’t a death sentence.

The causes are either physiological or psychological. The physiologically-cause erectile dysfunction is usually a symptom of some greater health concern, like diabetes for instance. Psychological ED is caused by the brain’s inability to connect with sexual thoughts, or are distracted by something else.

Erectile dysfunction is often characterized as psychological if erection is possible sometimes. For instance, are you able to get an erection during your sleep? Are you unable to perform on some nights only?

Thankfully the problem is both temporary and easy to fix, if action of some sort is taken. No need for surgery or other risky measures. It may be as simple as making sure you get a good night’s sleep, a physiological and fairly common cause of ED. Men think that they should be able to perform all the time, at all times. It’s just not possible. In this case it’s your body’s way of telling you to sleep and don’t over exert yourself – to conserve your energy.

Cutting out drugs, alcohol and smoking can help as well, as these are three physical factors that can cause erectile dysfunction, both temporary and not. Illegal and some forms of prescribed drugs have been known to cause ED, and everyone’s heard the term “whiskey dick.” Shortly after quitting smoking it has been found that erection problems quickly clear up. In general a healthy lifestyle helps, in both diet and exercise.

Stress is the biggest cause of temporary ED. Maybe you just can’t take your mind off work, no matter how hard you try. Or the excitement of being with someone new and the expectations for sex intimidate you. Learning to relax is necessary. Try massage, breathing, and other relaxation techniques. But sometimes it just isn’t enough. Worry, guilt, and other negative and distracting emotions play into temporary ED, and should be dealt with accordingly if you want the problem to go away for good.

Some sort of aid, like ProSolution Gel™, is a big help. Unlike a supplement, which you have to take everyday, use ProSolution Gel™ only when you need it. Feels like a lube and all you need to do is put a few drops on your penis and massage. You will have a longer, firmer erection than you’ve ever had, in seconds. Other benefits include increased sensation and better staying power. You’ll find yourself using ProSolution Gel™ even when you don’t have to.
